Welcome to the world of Cobblemon.GG! This guide will help you understand the elemental interactions and synergies that can give you a competitive advantage. Let’s dive into the basics of elements and how they work together. (some of the elements are not integrated with the cobblemon yet, so keep this guide as a helper, not a main cobblemon information source)

1. Understanding the Elements

In Cobblemon.GG, each Pokemon has one or two elemental types. These types influence their strengths and weaknesses in battles. Here are the primary elements and their general characteristics:

  • Fire: Strong against Grass, Bug, Ice, Steel, and Fairy. Weak against Water, Rock, and Fire.
  • Water: Strong against Fire, Ground, and Rock. Weak against Electric and Grass.
  • Grass: Strong against Water, Ground, and Rock. Weak against Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, and Bug.
  • Electric: Strong against Water and Flying. Weak against Ground.
  • Ice: Strong against Grass, Ground, Flying, and Dragon. Weak against Fire, Fighting, Rock, and Steel.
  • Fighting: Strong against Normal, Ice, Rock, Dark, and Steel. Weak against Flying, Psychic, and Fairy.
  • Poison: Strong against Grass and Fairy. Weak against Ground and Psychic.
  • Ground: Strong against Fire, Electric, Poison, Rock, and Steel. Weak against Water, Grass, and Ice.
  • Flying: Strong against Grass, Fighting, and Bug. Weak against Electric, Ice, and Rock.
  • Psychic: Strong against Fighting and Poison. Weak against Bug, Ghost, and Dark.
  • Bug: Strong against Grass, Psychic, and Dark. Weak against Fire, Flying, and Rock.
  • Rock: Strong against Fire, Ice, Flying, and Bug. Weak against Water, Grass, Fighting, Ground, and Steel.
  • Ghost: Strong against Ghost and Psychic. Weak against Ghost and Dark.
  • Dragon: Strong against Dragon. Weak against Ice, Dragon, and Fairy.
  • Dark: Strong against Psychic and Ghost. Weak against Fighting, Bug, and Fairy.
  • Steel: Strong against Ice, Rock, and Fairy. Weak against Fire, Fighting, and Ground.
  • Fairy: Strong against Fighting, Dragon, and Dark. Weak against Poison and Steel.

It is nearly impossible to memorize all of the aspects of the elemental interactions so don’t forget to save this page to your bookmarks.

2. Elemental Synergies

Elemental synergies occur when you combine Pokemon types in ways that cover each other’s weaknesses or enhance their strengths. Here are some effective combinations:

Fire & Flying:

  • Example: Charizard
  • Strengths: Fire’s weakness to Water is neutralized by Flying’s resistance to it.
  • Weaknesses: Rock attacks are doubly effective.

Water & Ground:

  • Example: Swampert
  • Strengths: Immunity to Electric attacks due to Ground typing.
  • Weaknesses: Quadruple weakness to Grass attacks.

Electric & Steel:

  • Example: Magnezone
  • Strengths: Steel’s resistance to many types makes Electric types more durable.
  • Weaknesses: Ground attacks are still a significant threat.

Grass & Poison:

  • Example: Venusaur
  • Strengths: Poison neutralizes Grass’s weakness to Bug.
  • Weaknesses: Still vulnerable to Psychic attacks.

Ice & Ground:

  • Example: Mamoswine
  • Strengths: Effective against a wide range of types, including Dragon.
  • Weaknesses: Vulnerable to Water and Grass attacks.

Dragon & Flying:

  • Example: Dragonite
  • Strengths: High resistance and coverage against many types.
  • Weaknesses: Quadruple weakness to Ice attacks.

3. Building a Balanced Team

When building your Cobblemon team, aim for a balance of types to cover as many weaknesses as possible. Here are some tips:

  1. Diversify Your Types: Avoid having multiple Pokemon with the same weaknesses.
  2. Utilize Dual Types: Dual-type Pokemon can provide better coverage and synergies.
  3. Cover Common Threats: Make sure you have answers to common threats in the meta.
  4. Consider Abilities and Moves: Pokemon abilities and move sets can further enhance synergies and cover weaknesses.

4. Advanced Strategies

Weather Teams:

  • Rain: Boosts Water-type moves and weakens Fire-type moves. Pokemon like Kingdra (Water/Dragon) and Ludicolo (Water/Grass) thrive here.
  • Sun: Boosts Fire-type moves and weakens Water-type moves. Pokemon like Venusaur (Grass/Poison) and Charizard (Fire/Flying) benefit.
  • Sandstorm: Boosts Rock-type Pokemon’s special defense. Pokemon like Tyranitar (Rock/Dark) and Excadrill (Ground/Steel) excel.
  • Hail: Boosts Ice-type Pokemon. Pokemon like Alolan Ninetales (Ice/Fairy) and Mamoswine (Ice/Ground) are ideal.

Terrain Teams:

  • Electric Terrain: Boosts Electric-type moves and prevents sleep. Tapu Koko (Electric/Fairy) is a key Pokemon.
  • Grassy Terrain: Boosts Grass-type moves and heals Pokemon. Rillaboom (Grass) is a great choice.
  • Psychic Terrain: Boosts Psychic-type moves and prevents priority moves. Tapu Lele (Psychic/Fairy) is essential.
  • Misty Terrain: Weakens Dragon-type moves and prevents status conditions. Tapu Fini (Water/Fairy) excels.

By understanding and leveraging these elemental interactions and synergies, you’ll be able to build a strong, versatile team that can handle any challenge. Happy battling, Cobblemon.GG Trainers!
