How Fishing Works in Cobblemon
Fishing is a unique way to catch water-type Pokémon on Cobblemon.gg. Unlike the mainline games, Cobblemon uses a Poké Rod system with berry-based bait that influences what you catch. You receive a free Poké Rod in your starter kit, so you can start fishing right away.
Crafting a Poké Rod
To craft a Poké Rod, you need three components:
Normal Fishing Rod
The base vanilla Minecraft fishing rod.
Poké Ball
Any Poké Ball type of your choice. The ball type does not affect catch results.
Smithing Template
A Poké Rod smithing template found through various methods in-game.
Using Bait for Better Catches
Open your inventory, grab berries, and click them on your Poké Rod to use them as bait. Different berries affect what Pokémon you encounter and how quickly they bite. Check the Poké Snack effects table in our Spawns & Pokédex guide for the full berry reference.
Fishing in Claims: If you are fishing inside your claimed land, you need to enable Pokémon Spawning in /claim → Profiles → left click on profile → claim settings (clock icon).
Shiny Fishing
It is possible to fish for shiny Pokémon! The odds are rare but can be improved with the right bait:
Shiny Fishing Odds
Based on community estimates, you would need to use approximately a shulker box full of Starf Berry stacks to have a reasonable chance of catching a shiny through fishing. Patience is essential.
